Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.
Cedar’s mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.
The Role
Cedar is making major investments in its Operator Portal, the primary interface used by health-system employees (call center operators, front desk, and patient advocates) to process payments and provide assistance to patients.
The Staff Workflows team oversees development of the Operator Portal, and we are currently seeking a Software Engineer III to help us build an innovative user experience that will enable healthcare workers to serve patients more efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of new full-stack features, including:
- Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to translate high-level requirements into technical specifications.
- Defining and documenting your proposed technical architecture, then iterating on your designs with input from other stakeholders and SMEs throughout the company.
- Translating your designs into clear and actionable tickets that can be picked up by other engineers.
- Coordinating the development efforts of other engineers to bring your designs to life as robust, well-tested, production-ready software.
- Leading user-acceptance testing (UAT) to ensure new features align perfectly with business requirements and end-user expectations.
- Overseeing the production deployment process to ensure a seamless go-live experience
- Uphold code quality standards by providing thoughtful PR reviews with an emphasis on clean, readable, and efficient code.
- Proactively identify technical debt and opportunities to make our systems more flexible, maintainable, and performant.
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience working across the stack with a strong ownership mentality, focused on delivering value (we don’t have a hard requirement, but generally this comes with at least 4-6 years of professional software development experience).
- Experience collaborating with product, design, and data science teams.
- Demonstrated ability to systematically debug complex problems and develop robust, testable, and scalable solutions.
- Strong commitment to writing comprehensive, effective tests (unit, integration, etc.) and considering edge cases during development.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, find comfort in ambiguity, and ramp up on new domains quickly to meet the evolving needs of the business.
- Excitement about our mission and desire to solve problems for our patients.
- (Bonus) Experience with one or more of the technologies in our stack:
- Frontend: TypeScript, React, Apollo, Tailwind
- Backend: Python, Django, Celery, Postgres
